Everything You Need to Know About Our Mattress Protectors

A mattress protector (also called a bed pad) prevents stains, odors, and moisture from little nighttime accidents or spilled bottles.
It extends your mattress’s life and keeps your child’s bedding clean, fresh, and healthy night after night, without disturbing their sleep.

What’s the difference between an absorbent and a waterproof mattress protector?

Absorbent: the fabric surface (cotton, bamboo, Tencel™…) captures and spreads moisture so the surface stays comfortable.
Waterproof: a membrane (usually PU) completely blocks liquids from reaching the mattress.

The best balance for a child’s bed: an absorbent surface + breathable waterproof membrane = comfort + total protection.

What’s the best protection for a mattress?

For little nighttime accidents, choose a washable, absorbent, and waterproof mattress protector with a fitted-sheet style (elastic corners) to stay perfectly in place under the sheet.
Need anti-dust mite protection? Add a full encasement anti-mite cover underneath the mattress protector.

Can a mattress protector be machine washed?

Yes. Machine wash at 40–60 °C, without fabric softener (it reduces absorbency) and without bleach.
Tumble dry on low or air dry.
💡 Tip: wash before first use to activate absorbency.

What’s the difference between a bed pad and a mattress protector?

In everyday use, the two terms are often used interchangeably.
Traditionally:

  • Bed pad: waterproof protection (often flat with elastic corner straps).
  • Mattress protector: a broader term that includes quilted absorbent versions (sometimes without a membrane) and waterproof ones.

For a child’s bed, choose a protector that’s both absorbent and waterproof for the best comfort and protection.

Are bed protectors washable?

Yes, if they’re reusable (washable). There are also single-use disposable versions, but they’re less economical and less eco-friendly.
We recommend washable protectors for easy daily rotation.

How often should you wash a mattress protector?

After every accident — wash immediately.
For regular care: every 1–2 weeks (or more often in case of heavy sweating or allergies).

Tip: keep a rotation of 2–3 protectors — one on the bed, one in the wash, and one ready to go.
